Blogger Recognition Award

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” ― Sylvia Plath

Blogger Recognition Award

Many thanks to Beatrisz for this nomination and do check out her blog. I am always quite humbled when fellow bloggers read my pieces, let alone recognize me in such a way as this!

How my blog started:

I originally attempted to blog three years ago, but to no avail. I gave up as quickly as I began, the timing in my life was just all wrong. Now, here I am, a fresh start only a few months ago. Encouragingly, I have 450 followers and growing. It is about timing, certainly, but also about where you are in life. I have found a lot more flow and positive feedback with each day that I am on this journey.

My advice to new bloggers:

I would certainly not consider myself a seasoned blogger, but I will give a few tips that I have found useful.

  1. Be consistent with reading, liking and commenting on your fellow blogger’s pieces. Genuine interest begets genuine interest. The more you follow others and become a presence, the more traffic from those truly interested is produced on your posts.
  2. Don’t get caught up in numbers- as in followers, likes or comments. When you begin it can be easy to get caught up in numbers. This can be discouraging or it can be exhilarating. In either case you lose focus of what is important. Personally I feel that to be, connecting with others and writing.
  3. Make goals. Whether you are blogging for a hobby or working towards a career, goals are a great way to find success. Personally, one goal I made, set a certain amount of time daily/weekly aside to blog. Otherwise, you can easily see time slip away having accomplished little to nothing.
  4. Use the Daily Prompt. It is a great way to be inspired daily and also to connect with fellow writers. Also, when you are struggling for topics or other points of inspiration, there are many great ideas on sights such as Pinterest. One of my favorites “100 Lifestyle Blog Post Ideas.”
  5. Have fun!

My Nominees:

  1. WhippetWisdom
  2. Memoirs Of The Quiet
  3. There Are More Poets Than Stars In the Firmament

In My Opinion

“There’s an ad for every vice. That’s advice.” ~Brian Spellman, If the mind fits, shrink it

Similar to my previous post, “Everyone’s An Expert”, you will also find that everyone has advice they wish to impart. I am not opposed to advice, after all, aren’t blogs full of [it]? But, I am cautious when it comes to guidance and from whom I actually listen to. In the past I have taken for granted that everyone actually knows what they are talking about when they give you input. However, in reality it is likely to be more opinion than fact- their personal ‘take’ on a situation is swaying thee imparted advice.

Funniest-Minions-Quotes-On-The-Internet-405Don’t get me wrong, life experiences make us who we are and will impact how we view situations. This may play a positive roll or negative in the given point of view. So, it is our responcibility to make sure we are following sound instruction from a trusted place. And, just because a person is your friend and you have much in common, this doesn’t mean they are a good source for input. Often we choose those most like us for advice, but in reality we need someone that isn’t afraid to be completely honest with us, even if it may be diffucult for us to hear. This is often hard for a friend or loved one if they fear losing your relationship over being honest in their counsel.

Finally, it is okay to disreguard advice. After all, we have a heart and brain that are often great sources to follow. Often some of the greatest mistakes in life lead to the most valuable life lesson, results of not listening to someone’s advice.

“I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself.” ~Oscar Wilde

“I am glad that I paid so little attention to good advice; had I abided by it I might have been saved from some of my most valuable mistakes.”~Edna St. Vincent Millay
