Whale Of A Tale

“Benjamin Disraeli once said ‘There are three kinds of lies:

‘Lies, damned lies and statistics’.

An anonymous quote once said that 87% of statistics are made up.

Or as The angler’s prayer says:

Lord, suffer me to catch a fish,
So large that even I,
When talking of it afterwards,
May have no need to lie.

And finally an old saying “Is it that all anglers are liars or is it that all the liars fish?” ”

Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge

Recently I read that a local teen in my area named Micha Cantor, was a Junior Pro surfer for Team USA. At only 15 years old, Micha just returned from competing in Portugal, where they won fifth place internationally. Micha has been surfing since around age five, with his father. His dad quickly saw that he had a love for the sport and his parents have nurtured his passion.

“It takes a lot to qualify for the International World’s Surfing competition, starting with participating in this organization called, “Prime,” and you qualify for USA championships through that program, and then go surf at USA championships and then from there, they pick six surfers for each age division and they picked me this last year,” Micha says. Source

Homeschool is their choice when it comes to his education. As the pull of the sport is time-consuming, this allows him to work around his schedule and pursue his dreams. Of course, as a homeschooling parent myself this is exciting and great to read! I love the doors that homeschool opens because of the ability for your child to fit [it] into their journey, verses working everything else around a long day of traditional school.

Micha’s dream is to be chosen for the 2020 Olympic team. This will be the first time in history that surfing will be part of the Olympic games. Source/Photo

Wreckage

Wreckage

Anchor in the sea below
Darkness has become your tomb.
Waves above tease you with their playing
Reflecting light dances from the moon.

Anchor in the ocean deep
Coral reefs have become your bed.
Seaweed like a blanket caresses
Swimming fish laugh around your head.

Anchor in the sea below
Water has become your fray.
Once a friend to ship and captain
Lost to rust and to decay.

Anchor in the ocean deep
Sandy floors have become your keeper.
Crustaceans creep among your bones
And surely salt has become your reaper.

Where Love Lives

“Love lives in the humblest of places. It doesn’t matter how big your house is, how nice your car is, how big your bank vault is…it only matters how much your heart can hold.”~Kate McGahan

Sunshine

Sunshine

Glimmering hues upon the waves
Kissing the beach with color

Rising from depths of slumber
Bathing the morning with light

Whispering sweetly to the sea
Caressing her with his warmth

The Sun in shining glory
Graces us with his presence

Is there anything better than the sun rising from out of the ocean? I’m not sure I have seen many splendors as magnificent as these moments. I am blessed to witness the beauty nature bestows in these quiet moments, when darkness is taken over by light.

Sisters Monday

Some, urgent news, I probably won’t be as active this week. I had a last minute fantastic surprise when one of my three Sisters called and asked if she could fly down to see me. I am so excited to have her here. She arrived yesterday, coming from chilly northern temps to a nice mild 80 degrees (F). She’s coming to check out the area and considering a move. I’m so thrilled to have her!

She was anxious to see the beach. So we got up and out for the sunrise this morning. We have the week to do lots of fun ‘Sis’ type things. Shopping, tanning and even matching “Sisters” coffee cup tattoos we’ve been wanting to get…yes this is what our week will likely be filled with. We are two peas in a pod and the most alike of all my siblings.

What are you up to? Happy Monday and have a fabulous week! Cheers from the beach.

Home Is

“Home wasn’t a set house, or a single town on a map. It was wherever the people who loved you were, whenever you were together. Not a place, but a moment, and then another, building on each other like bricks to create a solid shelter that you take with you for your entire life, wherever you may go.” ~Sarah Dessen

I have spent many parts of my life in many different places. I don’t go back to a childhood home with years of memories, because we never just lived in one place. So, this taught me that home is not a location but where the people you love reside.

Now as an adult, we raised our kids for the first 12 and 14 years of their lives in one location. But, then we moved cross country to begin new. We have instilled in them the same mind-set of where home truly is, within your family. Changes will occur throughout life, it is inevitable. But, one thing you can and should be able to count on, is family. I know not everyone is a blessed to be able to say this, so I do not take it for granite.

In conclusion, however, I will share with you some pictures from around our new local area here in Myrtle Beach, in keeping with the theme of the Daily Post Photo Challenge: Local. Enjoy!

Sides Of The Sea

“There was a magic about the sea. People were drawn to it. People wanted to live by it, swim in it, play in it, look at it. It was a living thing that as unpredictable as a great stage actor: it could be calm and welcoming, opening its arms to embrace its audience one moment, but then could explode with its stormy tempers, flinging people around, wanting them out, attacking coastlines, breaking down islands…” ~Cecelia Ahern

It always amazes me how beautiful the ocean can be at one moment and how angry and aggressive it can turn the next. Nothing more surprising and sad than to realize the destruction from these horrific storms that come out of the water. Really a “Jekyll and Hyde” of characters is hidden within the sea.

By now most people are aware of this huge hurricane name “Matthew” that has and continues to devastate thee Atlantic. From Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas, now headed for The States. Florida soon to be hit by a Category 3 to 4, many evacuated or in evacuation mode. Truly a scary event and the worst to hit since 2005.

Living on the coastline of South Carolina, our family has been in preparation for the past few days. Buying water, non-perishable foods, filling gas and propane tanks, as well as buying batteries. Today Hubby and Son have worked on getting the hurricane shutters in place and all lawn items have been moved indoors. They will soon be helping a neighbor do the same.

Thankfully we are outside thee evacuation zones that have been set for our area. These zones are due to not just one’s proximity to the ocean, but also the sea level. We are prayerful that by the time it gets to our area on Saturday it will be a “Category 2” or even less. Next will just be to ‘hunker down’ and perhaps some family board games or movie marathons (if we don’t lose power).

So much unpredictability, such is the way of weather and the sea.

Seagulls

I made a recent visit down to the local inlet and took some beautiful shots of seagulls. They perched so perfectly in a row for me. The greens were so vivid and the shadows, mingled with reflections off the water, were magnificent!
