Rainbows All Around

These photos were taken in Surfside Beach, SC; a very colorful little seaside town.  The following art piece was done by a local artist (Thomas Simpson, 2009). It is painted on the side of an entire restaurant. Quite eye-catching for this normal cinder block building.

You will find many places with very colorful houses, on the beach and off; they are on stilts  (as you will see often on the West Coast, but not as often on the East Coast). This is a beautiful place, just a 20 minute drive from Myrtle Beach and less tourist ridden. Many of these houses are for rent, weekly, monthly, exc. There are also locals and many great local restaurants within walking and golf cart distance.

Never Too Old

Walking along the beach recently I came across this couple building a huge sandcastle by the water’s edge. Not a couple of kids mind you, a couple of more mature folks. I was quite impressed with their efforts and sheer determination. It really was quite impressive and photo worthy. Not a scene one comes across every day, certainly. A great reminder that one is never too old to have fun!

There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” ~Sophia Loren

Wallpaper Giraffe Angel

“Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?” ~Dr Seuss

I finally did “it”! I finally went and got the tattoo that I have been working on creating for quite a few years. Something most people don’t know, well in the blogger’sphere’ is that I have tattoos. The idea is quite unusual to some, while others have embraced thee idea completely.

I was the first in my very conservative family to have one done. My first, just a couple of years ago, followed a year later by my second. Both, quite small and with meaning. As a woman in my mid 3o’s I am not one to just go about getting them done randomly, for looks alone. I have to have true meaning and much thought behind something that will remain with me for the rest of my life.Think of it as a piece of jewelry or clothing you have to look at forever.

So, this design has been in the works for years. It is representative of my Grandmother or as I alone called her “Gram.” She was my best friend. I lost her about five years ago after a lengthy battle with illness. I lived near to her my entire adulthood and she taught me much about life and lessons in my later years.

Gram was an avid collector of giraffes. At the time of her passing she easily had a few hundred. I still cannot see one without thinking of her, even tearing up at times. She also loved purple. She was adorned in a purple scarf even in death. I often bought her purple flowers, she especially loved carnations. But, in the spring we would also collect violets from her front yard.

So, in honor of my Gram these ideas were stirred. And, together with the tattoo artist we came up with this piece in her honor. I believe she would have loved [it] very much. I was SO pleased with how it turned out. This being my first more complicated and detailed tattoo, I was nervous. However, when I saw it, I couldn’t have been happier!

So, as the tattoo artist described it- Here is my “Wallpapered Giraffe Angel” for my Gram.

Finding Beauty Anywhere

Finding beauty even in the midst of sorrow. For me there is just something about photographs of grave yards that is so serene. I couldn’t help but capture this one, with the rod-iron fence and the beautiful fall colors in the background.  For some it may seem odd, but why not celebrate beauty wherever we can find it.

Pumpkins Recreated

“What keeps life fascinating is the constant creativity of the soul.”~Deepak Chopra

We made our way to a harvest market this past weekend. Took a couple of photos of some interesting art made with pumpkins. I found these to be quite fun. I believe my daughter and I have decided we will paint our pumpkins verses carving this year! I’ll keep you posted, as I’m sure photos will follow that endeavor. Hope you enjoy these as much as me.

Say What?

“I ALWAYS mean what I say…I may not always mean to say it out loud, but I always mean it.” ~Unknown

I found this little gem during some recent cross-country travels. We had pulled off in a back road town for gas. I had to stop and snap a picture. This made me giggle, it’s just my kind of funny. Thought it’d be a perfect fit for Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge
