Swing Into Fall

Let me fall in love and let it be, warm like autumn on a tree

Water’s Edge

Out for a beautiful stroll along the water’s edge. Serene, still waters and pleasant fall temperatures. A perfect day for a walk. The bridge lies ahead and a path behind.

October Transformations

“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!” ~Rainbow Rowell

One of the fun traditions that my daughter still enjoys is transforming pumpkins into Jack O’lanterns. We also are looking forward to transforming ourselves into costumed characters. Although she does not want to trick-or-treat this year, she wants to help hand out candy to all the neighborhood kids that will come through. I just look forward to left over candy or perhaps a few pieces snuck between visitors.

Along Halloween, with these we have some fall favorites. Pumpkin and apple treats are a must. Pumpkin pastries such as muffins, breads and cookies along with apple crisp, pie and cider. However, now that we are South we no longer can go apple picking or leaf peeping, as in the past. When my kids were real little we would rake leaves and they would jump in the piles. I don’t miss the big maple leaf messes though!

What are some of your Halloween and/or Fall traditions?

Finding Beauty Anywhere

Finding beauty even in the midst of sorrow. For me there is just something about photographs of grave yards that is so serene. I couldn’t help but capture this one, with the rod-iron fence and the beautiful fall colors in the background.  For some it may seem odd, but why not celebrate beauty wherever we can find it.

Changing Leaves

The tree, a picture of strength
It grows older and stronger
With each season it may differ
But the unseen roots remain

Oh, to be like a great maple
Standing against the storm and wind
It may lose its beauty to the winter
But then renewed again in spring

Reaching towards the sun and sky
Tears of dew wet on its face
Blossoming to another new year
Ever mindful that leaves do change

Pumpkins Recreated

“What keeps life fascinating is the constant creativity of the soul.”~Deepak Chopra

We made our way to a harvest market this past weekend. Took a couple of photos of some interesting art made with pumpkins. I found these to be quite fun. I believe my daughter and I have decided we will paint our pumpkins verses carving this year! I’ll keep you posted, as I’m sure photos will follow that endeavor. Hope you enjoy these as much as me.

Cultivate Yourself

“Apply yourself both now and in the next life. Without effort, you cannot be prosperous. Though the land be good, You cannot have an abundant crop without cultivation.” ~Plato
