All About A’s

“Your prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “any.” Begin your post with the word “any.” Bonus points if you theme your post on another word that starts with “A.” Have fun!”

Any idea how we got to April so quickly? I cannot believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year! The kids only have about six more weeks of school. As we approach the summer I am attempting to make some plans. I do not want to hear the “b” word from them, you know the one, bored. Oldest has been told he needs to apply for a job this summer. At sixteen the time has arrived for him to join the work force. Youngest is turning fourteen next month. She has a new affinity with turtles. We found a sea turtle aquarium a few hours north from us, which we will visit for her birthday. All-in-all life continues to move at an allarming pace. The kids grow, we work and amazingly we are celebrating our two year anniversary at the beach in a few months!

Happy Saturday Y’all!

This Complicated Thing Called Life

socsStream of Consciousness Saturday is: “how.”  Start your post with the word “How.” Bonus points if you end with it too.

How did life get so complicated? I would love to go back to a time when all I had to worry about was school grades, what to wear and what to eat for breakfast. Now, here I am married, with two teenagers of my own and the responcibility’s list goes on. I have a million thoughts running through my mind constantly. Yesterday, at one point, I literally could not focus on one thing at a time, and was running around like a mad woman. Well, some would say “mad woman,” while others would just say, mom. Is it any wonder though that I am losing my mind? Really, the pressures of life get higher as does my age! Sometimes I think that I would like to fane crazy just to get a holiday in a hospital (okay, maybe that’s taking it a bit too far, but I know some of you get me)!

Now, I need to go get ready for work, which happens to be my respite from the complications, some how.  ~Mac

Don’t Walk Alone

people-1031189_960_720

I am well aware that life’s just not fair

But then again we are just men

To walk in hope and not just cope

Our path in life is full of strife

And what is planned is not in hand

We must trust this is a must

What the future holds as it unfolds

Is for me what’s meant to be

Thought I was strong could just go along

Do it on my own be it all alone

So on I went until I was fully spent

Life took its toll on my soul

So I prayed for love sent from up above

With strength to lend or help send

As my struggles passed I’ve learned at last

Wish I’d known, to not walk alone©

Me, Myself and Hair

“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”~Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

I will admit that I am quite taken with my hair. It is my favorite feature about myself, besides my eyes. And, while I try not to be vain, well, it probably comes as no surprise that I can be.

But, to be honest, I actually have quite a bit of body image problems. I may appear to some as being self-confident, but in all truth, I am not. I have suffered with body dysmorphia for years. Weight has always been a problem for me. Fad diets and easy weight loss pills have been my bane at times. I have yo-yoed for years, gone up and down three different clothing sizes. I would love to say I could blame my pregnancies, but seeing as my kids are nearly 14 and 16, I think not, lol!

So, as I close in over the next few years to the big 4-0 I am working on being healthy. Walking almost daily and attempting at a healthier diet. My doctor has also gotten on board and is helping me with some medications. Not weight loss pills, but some others that are proven to aide a person if they are doing all the right things. These have helped and I did go down 10 pounds in two months! A very healthy rate of loss.

And, things I do have going for me- I do not suffer with high blood pressure, high sugar, high cholesteral or any other type of problems that can come with weight issues. Yes, the occassional body ache and I do have a bad back. But, overall I am actually very healthy, according to my doctor. Now, if my mind could just get on board and my body could toe the line.

And all this, just from talking about my hair. Which, by the way, is all natural me. No dyes, except for the sun which likes to kiss me with highlights in the summer.

You Say Ostentatious, I Say…

I must admit I had to look up this word “ostentatious.” I enjoy using big words, and yes, I have heard this word before. But, I needed some context. I don’t just like to throw around large words, I’m not pernicious, you know!

As a writer and lover of the English language, I quite enjoy Thesaurus.com and highly recommend it. In looking up our “Daily Word Prompt” I found there to be quite a great list of synonyms for ostentatious. And, would you believe it? My name and photo were there too! Right under “conspicuous, flamboyant and glittery”…yes, that’s me!

That Awkward Moment When

As I sit on the couch and watch Willow headed my way, I know that I am soon to hear her small voice chirp at me. I ask her to come sit on the couch with me, but she insists that I come down to the floor. She pats the side of the couch to get my attention, and gracefully falls to her back, rolling around. Smiling at her cute gesture, I get up and sit next to her, petting her tummy. Suddenly it dawns on me, it is that awkward moment when… the realization hits, I have been trained by my cat.

“I had been told that the training procedure with cats was difficult. It’s not. Mine had me trained in two days.”~Bill Dana

The Long Week

“Sometimes it feels like my life is just one long day.”~ John Mayer

I had an extraordinarily busy week. I had quite a bit of work a couple days this week and had also been cleaning out for an end of summer garage sale. We had [it] today and all went really well, hard work payed of…literally! My hubby also was quite busy, so a lot of going our separate ways and utterly worn by thee end of each day.

So, one evening this week we had an opportunity to get out for dinner, thanks to my job. It is a rare thing for us to do a night time date (mostly because I don’t like to be out late). But, we had an amazing time recharging at this restaurant on the waterway. So, thought I’d share a few photos I snapped as we got to enjoy some drinks and take in the view of the sunset. It definitely energized me to finish out the week strong and have a successful day today! Happy Saturday everyone!
