Me, Myself and Hair

“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”~Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

I will admit that I am quite taken with my hair. It is my favorite feature about myself, besides my eyes. And, while I try not to be vain, well, it probably comes as no surprise that I can be.

But, to be honest, I actually have quite a bit of body image problems. I may appear to some as being self-confident, but in all truth, I am not. I have suffered with body dysmorphia for years. Weight has always been a problem for me. Fad diets and easy weight loss pills have been my bane at times. I have yo-yoed for years, gone up and down three different clothing sizes. I would love to say I could blame my pregnancies, but seeing as my kids are nearly 14 and 16, I think not, lol!

So, as I close in over the next few years to the big 4-0 I am working on being healthy. Walking almost daily and attempting at a healthier diet. My doctor has also gotten on board and is helping me with some medications. Not weight loss pills, but some others that are proven to aide a person if they are doing all the right things. These have helped and I did go down 10 pounds in two months! A very healthy rate of loss.

And, things I do have going for me- I do not suffer with high blood pressure, high sugar, high cholesteral or any other type of problems that can come with weight issues. Yes, the occassional body ache and I do have a bad back. But, overall I am actually very healthy, according to my doctor. Now, if my mind could just get on board and my body could toe the line.

And all this, just from talking about my hair. Which, by the way, is all natural me. No dyes, except for the sun which likes to kiss me with highlights in the summer.

This is me ~Mac

You Say Ostentatious, I Say…

I must admit I had to look up this word “ostentatious.” I enjoy using big words, and yes, I have heard this word before. But, I needed some context. I don’t just like to throw around large words, I’m not pernicious, you know!

As a writer and lover of the English language, I quite enjoy Thesaurus.com and highly recommend it. In looking up our “Daily Word Prompt” I found there to be quite a great list of synonyms for ostentatious. And, would you believe it? My name and photo were there too! Right under “conspicuous, flamboyant and glittery”…yes, that’s me!

That Awkward Moment When

As I sit on the couch and watch Willow headed my way, I know that I am soon to hear her small voice chirp at me. I ask her to come sit on the couch with me, but she insists that I come down to the floor. She pats the side of the couch to get my attention, and gracefully falls to her back, rolling around. Smiling at her cute gesture, I get up and sit next to her, petting her tummy. Suddenly it dawns on me, it is that awkward moment when… the realization hits, I have been trained by my cat.

“I had been told that the training procedure with cats was difficult. It’s not. Mine had me trained in two days.”~Bill Dana

The Long Week

“Sometimes it feels like my life is just one long day.”~ John Mayer

I had an extraordinarily busy week. I had quite a bit of work a couple days this week and had also been cleaning out for an end of summer garage sale. We had [it] today and all went really well, hard work payed of…literally! My hubby also was quite busy, so a lot of going our separate ways and utterly worn by thee end of each day.

So, one evening this week we had an opportunity to get out for dinner, thanks to my job. It is a rare thing for us to do a night time date (mostly because I don’t like to be out late). But, we had an amazing time recharging at this restaurant on the waterway. So, thought I’d share a few photos I snapped as we got to enjoy some drinks and take in the view of the sunset. It definitely energized me to finish out the week strong and have a successful day today! Happy Saturday everyone!

Follow Or Lead

This post is two-fold today as I first want to mention the #SOCS word which is “accumulate“. This fits in quite well as I have been on a roll the past 24 hours with my writing. Yesterday we had a tropical storm come through, making for a great day to stay home and take to pen and paper. I was rather melancholy, which for me means eight pieces in total written. I shared one last night called Unshed Storm.

So, now on to the Daily Prompt: Sidewalk. I wanted to share a piece that I did, which fit quite nicely into this category. Enjoy and happy Saturday!

The Journey

~by Southern By Design

The path was rough so I chose to follow; You guided me towards a safer road.

When I stumbled your strong arms caught me; Strength in my weakness is your gift.

One day I may be leading and you behind me; Your power all but lost to trials many.

I pray I can find the strength within me; Guiding us on the way towards home.

Your Mistakes~Reflect

“We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. But you are not your mistakes, you are not your struggles, and you are here NOW with the power to shape your day and your future.”
~Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience

Ever since coming across this quote I have loved it. I have made many mistakes in life, and like everyone I have regrets. But, not allowing these to be what makes me who I am, that has been key to having success. Spending time dwelling on your failures is not going to change what has been. So, learn from your mistakes, dust yourself off and look to the future. Remember, tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it…yet.

The Missed Date~ #SOCS

My husband and I enjoy going to the movies. We enjoy about 90% of the same styles of movies, that is- Sci-fi, action and suspense. Friday has turned into our little date day. Blessed with the ability to set our own schedules most weeks we have worked hard at setting this time aside for movie dates. If there is nothing playing that we want to see we will try to do something else or maybe rent a movie.

Yesterday we were hoping to see a double feature. He was going to see “Pete’s Dragon” with me (there is that 10% we have in different taste) and then we were also going to see “Ben Hur.” Some great throw backs this month! Anyway, he got an emergency call on Thursday night though and we had to cancel. I have to say we were both disappointed. But life will go on and movie date makeup days are already in the works.

I will tell you, 18 years of marriage this month and I still love going out on dates. It is a time for just the two of us to put aside whatever is going on in our lives and just be in the moment with each other. I also think it’s good for our teens to see, an example of a working, loving relationship and how you keep it going. I highly recommend dates for married couples or those that have been in relationships for long periods of time. Purposing to take the time out with each other keeps you communicating and engaging, so important in a relationship. It doesn’t have to be weekly (although I highly recommend it) but, at least one day a month should be set aside for just the two of you.

Today’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt was the word, “date.” Find out more at Linda Hill’s blog:

Here are the rules:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

8. Have fun!
